- Working with industry-specific terminology
- Ensuring consistency in the text or design (page numbering, titles, date formats, etc.)

- Adjusting the language and tone as needed,
- Reviewing structure and theme (in a literary work)

Why is editing charged by the hour while proofreading is charged by the word count?

Proofreading is straightforward because I’m focusing on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and other writing basics. An editing job requires research and fact-checking. Every job is different and may require very little (or a significant amount) of that kind of work. Therefore, I price by the time I spend on projects which require more in-depth fixes.

My piece is really short. What if I require editing, but I don’t think it will take you an hour?

Not to worry! If you have a small piece, I will charge you only for the time I spend on it. For example, if it’s half an hour, it will be $20.
